The NGO Backbone and Floodplains by Design (FbD) Steering Group have identified four priority work areas for the coming year. There are opportunities to develop for near and long term improvements. This work will rely upon input and expertise from the broad FbD network so that it can reflect the range of perspectives and insights necessary to inform action.

Grant Updates

As we refine the 2027-2029 Floodplains by Design grant cycle, we’re committed to meaningful improvements that address key opportunities and work as intended. Your insights matter. Stay informed and get involved in shaping the process.

Permitting

The permitting process for integrated floodplain management can be a challenge, adding complexity and time to our efforts to restore floodplain areas. The permitting priority effort includes two key components: permitting coordination conversations and the development of a flood hub resource.

Acquisitions & Buyouts

The four-part series on Buyouts & Acquisitions highlighted key information gaps, resources, and potential actions. These insights could lay the groundwork for process improvements and new funding opportunities. Watch the series to explore findings and help shape next steps.

Agriculture

Recent discussion around agriculture in Puget Sound have highlighted need for a shared statewide understanding of Integrated Floodplain Management. We’re developing a resource to connect stakeholders, including commodity-focused advocates and experts across the regions.
