Bridging the Gaps: Creative Finance for Home Elevations and Flood Recovery – FbD Lunch & Learn Series

September 3 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Following severe flooding in Whatcom County, homeowners were eligible for public assistance to elevate or repair their homes, but reimbursement-based structure of recovery grants created a major barrier: residents were expected to front the cost of the repairs before being paid back. This L&L will feature Peoples Bank, Whatcom Community Foundation, and Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group in a facilitated conversation about how local partners are working together to create a flexible financing approach that helps homeowners move forward. Presenters will share how the partnership came together, what gaps it helps address, and what communities can learn about creativity, trust, and relationship building amidst long-term flood recovery.
Peoples Bank recently published an article about this partnership, and if interested, can be accessed here: https://www.peoplesbank-wa.com/financing-resilience-peoples-bank-supports-long-term-flood-recovery-effort-in-whatcom-county/
