10 Months and 2 Days on the Dungeness River

A February 2015 flood damaged an old railroad trestle over the Dungeness River. In the 10 months and 2 days since, that bridge has been upgraded, a project that simultaneously benefits people, salmon and rivers. Read the full article for more.

The Dungeness River has flooded four times since February 2015. The first flood damaged the old railroad trestle and closed the Olympic Discovery Trail. In the 10 months and 2 days since that first flood, the 585 feet of old trestle have been replaced by 720 feet of salmon-friendly, river-worthy pedestrian bridge, and the floodplains are flowing freely.
